John looks so confused when Sherlock stars to speak Italian, and it is great at the end when Mike says “he’s always like that” implying that he breaks in to different languages randomly. This is a video from article “Je m’appelle Sherlock Holmes…” (Radio Times) Hear Benedict Cumberbatch dubbed into four foreign languages.
OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS BECAUSE IT IS OFFICIAL BBC VIDEO AND IT’S PERFECT, AND BECAUSE IT’S SHERLOCK SPEAKING FRENCH, OMFG!!!
Sherlock slips into Russian to greet Molly (Louise Brealey), and he’s suddenly much more manly and in control. The language suits Cumberbatch’s casually confident way of carrying himself - much better than Spanish, the next translation we hear.
This is the first time I actually heard Russian dub. I’m surprised - Sherlock does sound very manly. Wonderful. I watched the series in English only and was instantly taken by Benedict’s voice. It’s nice that they managed to make a Russian dub quite sufficient. I was worried that it would sound appalling. That and the translation. Translation is still a very big question. I want to watch Sherlock with my parents, but I am not sure I would be able to sit through my favourite show without cringing at the translation.
We end with Sherlock and Watson dubbed into French, and it’s gravelly, expressive French too. Benedict’s more enthusiastic female fans might need to have a lie down…
OH YES - IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT I WAS ALREADY LYING DOWN!! BECAUSE FRENCH SHERLOCK SOUNDS TOO HOT!!!

The Italian, Russian, and French Holmes voices are each so different, but all of them “HNNNNNNNNNNNNG”-worthy.
